Greetings! We’re Red and Sarah. We first met in London in 2001 and have been having adventures around the world ever since.  We love nature and wildlife, and exploring unique and different places.

We love nature and wildlife
Guyana – the amazing Kaieteur Falls

We set up our lives together in Australia in 2003.  We put a huge world map on our wall and kept our wanderlust alive. We married in 2008 and headed to Myanmar and Borneo  for our honeymoon. This is when our love of unique destinations started. In 2011 we travelled to Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, and we were already planning our next adventure on our flight home! Ethiopia, The Congo, Sao Tome, Gabon and South Africa were next up in 2015.  We were filled with so much excitement around every adventure, and the more we travelled, the more we wanted to travel.

In 2017 our perspectives changed.  Our travels had inspired us to change our lifestyle so that we could live simply and sustainably in nature, and have the flexibility and time to travel freely.  We wanted to do more (of what we love), with less (unnecessary possessions and waste).  We sold our house, quit our jobs, gave away most of our possession’s, and moved to an off-grid cabin in the Tasmanian wilderness. We then spent eight months travelling down through Central America, South America and the Caribbean. We’ve never looked back.

Travel provides new experiences

We enjoy the challenge of getting out of our comfort zones and being open to new experiences.  This has naturally taken our travels to countries or places that could be described as obscure. Obscure destinations are simply places that we are curious about. Some of these places are unknown, or have just been forgotten, or only remembered for significant events in the past.  Sometimes it’s just difficult to find the information we are looking for to plan our trip.

While obscure destinations may take a little more planning, they are full of welcoming people, amazing landscapes and wonderful creatures. They fill your heart and soul with the most memorable moments.  Even the ordinary can become extraordinary.  And the biggest challenge can become a triumph. Every day has an element of the unknown.

In 2023 we set off on our biggest adventure yet, travelling from London to Cape Town, overland, down through West Africa. With a lot of our destinations being obscure, and resources limited, we decided to create this blog to provide information to help others plan their next adventure. We hope to give others the courage to explore obscure destinations by showing them what’s possible.

Our aim is to provide insights for the unknown, forgotten and emerging places of our world.  We want to share our adventures and raise awareness of these hidden gems, and the precious people, cultures and nature within them. We are passionate about promoting National Parks, Reserves and Conservation Projects, so that we can encourage others to visit and contribute to helping keep them protected, and the wildlife living in them safe.

We want to inspire others to be adventurous.  We want to inspire you.
